Festivals mark the calendar's turning points. A festival entity is a dated observance — the Spring Festival, the summer and winter solstices, Litha — and its entry records what is being marked, what is eaten, and what is expected of the day. The Atlas treats festivals as the public, collective form of seasonal timing: the point at which an individual's observation becomes a community's agreement about where in the year everyone stands.
Festival pages connect to the foods prepared for them, the places that celebrate them, and the seasonal concepts they dramatise. Because a festival is a fixed date attached to a variable season, these entries are also where the Atlas records the tension between the calendar and the weather — the reason a festival can fall on the wrong side of the year it is meant to mark, and the reason its foods and customs shift over time.
